Maine Unemployment Rate 6.8 Percent in May

According to the Center for Workforce Research and Information, the derived Maine unemployment rate for May is 6.8% According the charts, the good news is that this continues a downward trend for 8% in June of 2011 and remains below the national unemployment rate of 7.6%.

The recent updates page show more troubling data. Specifically the unemployment rate by age of 2001 v 2011.

High DemandAs the economy continues to improve, and baby boomers can afford to retire, lets hope that the entry level employment rate improves to capture the skills transfer needed to sustain the state’s economy in the years and decades ahead.
