Summer Reading List

This summer, I will be reading, writing and thinking my way through these two books.

Connectome by Sebastian Seung, subtitle How the Brain’s Wiring Makes Us Who We Are; and Thinking, Fast and Slow by Daniel Kahneman.

The brain has two elements – the physical brain and the thinking brain.  Connectome deals with the physical brand and seeks to extend the Genome Project with a follow-on Connectome Project.   This research seeks to bridge the gap from nature – genes to nurture – our thought pathways.

Thinking, Fast & Slow speaks to the two systems of thought. “System 1 is fast, intuitive, and emotional; System 2 is slower, more deliberative, and more logical.”

These two books complement each other and deserve to be read side by side.  So that’s my summer reading. In between, I’ll be mowing the lawn, working on a patio, going to festivals – music & pirate, and end by watching sunrises over Passamaquoddy Bay.  Oh, and whale & eagle watching.

What are you reading this summer?
