Maine HR News for October 2014


This is the inaugural beta test trial release of a new feature here on Wicked Good HR.  IF feedback is positive, recommendations are sound, and inputs are timely, this could become a monthly service provide to the Maine Human Resources Community.

The purpose of this service is to list all the known HR events in the State of Maine for the month of October.  The sources for this list will be emails and public websites. Later on, there will be a more structured call for submissions.

There will be no fee for this service. The only cost will be a moment of your time to email updates to


October 2HR Day at the Maine Department of Labor.   The event will help HR professionals build effective workforces through the DOL’s programs and help keep their businesses compliant with Maine’s labor laws.   Please join us for this free educational seminar. This free event is ‘sold out‘!  A second showing has been scheduled for October 30. Location: Augusta

October 6: Workforce Training Partnership Workshop: This no-cost workshop, bringing together business and industry with Maine’s workforce, education and economic development partners, will provide information on best practices and funding sources for workforce training. Location: Augusta

October 8:  Midcoast Human Resource Association: Mastering the Art of Persuasion and Influence Workshop. Persuading and influencing people requires effective communication skills, which is the foundation of all human interaction, personally and professionally. It also serves as the basis for all human resource development programs.Location: Rockland.

October 8: Kennebec Valley Human Resources AssociationDiversity and Inclusion , with speaker Meg LePage, Pierce Atwood.  Location: Augusta

October 9: Mainebiz Momentum Convention.  The theme is TRANSFORMATION. We recognize that businesses have to transform themselves to stay competitive. At Mainebiz we have first-hand experience in learning how to transform our business as we celebrate our 20thanniversary this year. Location: Portland

October 14: The Human Resources Association of Southern Maine  is presenting Part Two. How to Handle Serious Charges and and Complaints from a Legal, Practical and PR Perspective. Whether it be a shocking child abuse claim, an embezzlement case, a data breach, or an allegation of workplace discrimination or harassment, the manner in which a high profile case is handled will have a profound impact for your organization. Location: Portland.

October 19 – 21: Strategic HR New England Strategic HR New England enters year three to great critical acclaim. Engage with a senior-level, strategic-thinking audience in every aspect of the conference. Discover programming that encourages you to think big. Share HR lessons you’ve learned along the way. And take in the magic of the historic Mount Washington Hotel.  According the event website, this one is approaching sold out status with 20 seats remaining. Location: The historic Mount Washington Hotel in Bretton Woods, New Hampshire.

October 21: CMHRA is hosting The Washington Outlook: Heading into Midterm Elections-What’s Next for HR Public Policy featuring SHRM’s Mike Aitkin, VP Gov’t Affairs.  Michael Aitken will discuss the outlook of congressional initiatives and recently released or pending federal regulations on employment-related issues of interest to HR professionals. He will also provide a forecast of the issues likely to be on the front-burner in Washington in the 114th Congress. Location: Lewiston.
